JANUARY 27

Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba Elects New Leadership

At the Ex's Annual General Meeting a new Board of Directors and Eexecutive was elected.
   Jim Ferguson, Kathy Cleaver, Darrell Hack and Terry Klassen continue to serve their terms as board members; Ron Denslow, Bill Henderson, and Jim Wilson were re-elected to the Board of Directors; Sean Farnell was elected as a new member.
   Neil Thomson was elected to President of the Board of Directors, and Kevin Cameron was elected to the position of Vice President. Stanley Cochrane will now serve as Past President on the Board.
  Newly elected President Neil Thomson said. “I look forward to working with the great staff and dedicated volunteers in keeping with the tradition of the Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba. The fairs produced by the Provincial Exhibition generate more than $12 million dollars annually in Brandon and Manitoba. I'm not sure if everyone realizes that, but it clearly demonstrates the economic impact the Provincial Exhibition is, and how important it is for the city of Brandon."

Please donate to the Christian Veterinary Mission Haiti Earthquake Fund, which cares for animals and livestock affected by disaster.

AmericanHumane.org/aes-donate.

The Christian Veterinary Mission has served in Haiti since the early 1980s and has set up a dedicated fund for earthquake relief. They currently have three long-term fieldworkers on site, all of whom have checked in as safe. They have also trained more than 1,000 village-level animal health workers.

FEI World Cup Driving: Switzerland’s Daniel Würgler has won the sixth leg of the FEI World Cup Driving competition in Leipzig, Germany. Würgler drove two Impeccable clear and fast rounds and stayed ahead of Dutch wild card driver IJsbrand Chardon and Jozsef Dobrovitz from Hungary with their Lipizzaner teams. Full report here...

ROLEX FEI WORLD CUP™ JUMPING 2009/2010. It was Ladies Day at Leipzig, where they dominated the lineup at the eighth leg of the Rolex FEI World Cup™ series in Leipzig, Germany today. Ireland’s Jessica Kuerten produced a devastating burst of speed to pip runner-up Edwina Alexander from Australia and third-placed Frenchwoman Penelope Leprevost in a 16-way jump-off. The Netherlands’ Edward Gal and Moorlands Totilas swept to victory in the seventh leg of the FEI World Cup™ Dressage series in Amsterdam this afternoon to rocket up to the top of the series leaderboard. Once again thrilling both judges and spectators alike, the dynamic Dutch duo recorded a score of 87.70% as they high-stepped their way to success with their unique sparkle and panache. Equine Breeders Seminar Focuses on Export Marketing. Breeders of horses in Canada enjoy unique advantages found nowhere else in the world.  As Canada is geographically vast, breeders must draw on unique solutions that will consolidate their efforts so that they can leverage off of these advantages to become a leading exporter of horses to the world. On Friday, February 5, 2010, a free export preparedness seminar will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Sheraton Montreal Hotel in Montreal, Quebec, in conjunction with Equine Canada’s Annual Convention. The FEI announced details of a five-year Global Education Programme for Eventing Officials today. The CHF 1 million project, which will support the regular FEI Educational and Certification system for Eventing Officials at all levels, is funded by the FEI. Details here...

Canadian Cheryl Meisner Awarded Wildcard Spot at Exquis World Dressage Masters in Florida. Cheryl and Paganini, John Risley’s 13-year-old Dutch Warmblood stallion (Havidoff x Statuar), will represent Canada at the $145,000 Exquis World Dressage Masters, scheduled for February 4–6, 2010 at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center, in Wellington, FL, USA. Manitoba Horse Council has moved to an interim location at 1271 Sargent Ave, Winnipeg. The mailing address will remain at 200 Main St, Winnipeg, R3C 4M2. During this interim, MHC asks that contact with the office be made primarily thru phone or email (no fax).

Club reps - don't forget to RSVP for the Council of Clubs meeting January 13 - important decisions are to be made.

LOVE HORSES - LOOKING FOR A CAREER?

The Horsemans Benevolent Protection Association is operating a free four-week course starting February 13, 2010 that can lead to employment as a TB Race Horse Groom. You will learn all of the necessary askills to care for these amazing equine athletes. Participants should have some horse experience, their own transportation, provide a criminal record check, and be available 6-7 days/week from Feb 13, 2010. Upon successful completion of the course, graduates can expect to earn $400.-$500. per week. Contact 204-832-4949 or 461-3033.
